Enhanced Heat Pump Grant for Off-Gas-Grid Homes
If your home runs on oil or LPG and isn't connected to the gas grid, you may qualify for an enhanced government grant of up to £9,000 towards a heat pump installation — significantly higher than the standard rate.
⏳ Important timing note
The enhanced £9,000 grant was announced in April 2026 and is expected to come into effect from July 2026, running until March 2027. The standard BUS grant of £7,500 is available now. We'll update this page as soon as the enhanced rate is confirmed and open for applications. Get in touch now to discuss your options and prepare your property.
What Is the Enhanced BUS Grant?
The Boiler Upgrade Scheme (BUS) provides capital grants to help homeowners replace fossil fuel heating with low-carbon alternatives. The standard grant is £7,500 for most properties.
An enhanced uplift has been announced for homes that are off the gas grid — typically those currently heated by oil or LPG boilers. These properties are expected to access a higher grant of up to £9,000 from July 2026, reflecting the greater cost and benefit of switching from liquid fuels to a heat pump.
Available now for most properties replacing gas or electric heating
Expected from July 2026 for off-gas-grid homes (oil or LPG heated)
Who Qualifies?
The enhanced grant is designed for a specific type of property. To be eligible, your home generally needs to meet the following criteria:
- Your property is not connected to the mains gas grid
- Your current heating system runs on oil or LPG
- You own the property (homeowners or landlords)
- Your property has a valid EPC with no outstanding recommendations for loft or cavity wall insulation
- The property is in England or Wales
What Does the Grant Cover?
The BUS grant is applied directly to the cost of your installation — reducing the amount you pay upfront. It covers:
Air Source Heat Pump
The most common option for off-gas-grid homes. Extracts heat from outside air to heat your home and hot water.
Ground Source Heat Pump
Uses pipes buried in the ground to extract stable ground heat. Higher upfront cost, but excellent long-term efficiency.
The grant is paid directly to your certified installer and deducted from your installation cost. You pay the remainder — which can also be spread with flexible finance if needed.
